About Us

Who We Are

Founded in 2005, by two friends—Katherine Santer and Kim Dowds— Jack Cards is designed for busy people who value sending a handwritten birthday, anniversary or 'miss you' card but find it hard to get to a card shop or post office on time. Our hope is that Jack Cards will make staying in touch a little bit easier. And for anyone who has missed (or forgotten!) a birthday or anniversary - enjoy!

Based in San Francisco, California, Jack Cards uniquely focuses on delivering pre-scheduled ready-to-go (stamped and addressed) greeting cards to the sender just in time to write their own personal message inside and drop it in the mailbox. While Jack Cards makes it easier for people to select fun and interesting greeting cards from the most talented greeting card designers, and to send them on time, the "thoughtfulness" in sending a personally written message remains.

Katherine Santer, Co Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Katherine loves art and design. So much so she decided to fulfill a long-held dream and enter the world of design and entrepreneurship. Katherine came up with the idea for Jack Cards while chatting with Kim about venturing into producing well-designed products, and together they decided to launch an innovative greeting card company about design and problem solving. Katherine is from Sydney, Australia and now lives and works in San Francisco. Growing up she lived in Iran and France while her father was on diplomatic assignments, and as an exchange student in Japan. After graduating from university in economics and business, Katherine worked in marketing and economic consulting in Sydney and Boston.

Kim Dowds, Co Founder & Chief Creative Officer

Kim was born in Sydney, Australia and moved to Boston shortly after graduating from the University of Queensland and the Queensland University of Technology with two Bachelors degrees in Design Studies and Architecture. After practicing architecture with a firm in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Kim decided to take a leap of faith and do something a little 'bigger' than her formal studies. Jack Cards is that little 'big' idea. Kim lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts with her husband.

Peter Glover, Chief Technical Officer

Peter joined the Jack Cards team in June 2008, as Chief Technical Officer. Previously to Jack Cards, Peter was the Vice President, New Products and Technology for Shockwave.com (part of the MTV/Nickelodeon Casual Games Group) where he planned and managed the development of new video game products for mobile and PC. Peter was part of Shockwave.com's Games Group since 2000, first running the company's internal development studio, and then later managing its games business as a whole. His previous work experience includes Accenture/Andersen Consulting, LeapFrog Toys, Zenda Studio (formerly Apple Computer's Discovery Studio), and Freelance Multimedia and Design Consultancy. Peter graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY. He lives with his family in San Francisco.

Melissa Kranzo, Operations Manager

Melissa joined Jack Cards in December 2007, when her sense of adventure led her to leave her teaching career and try something new. Her love for words found a new outlet with Jack Cards. Melissa has Bachelor degrees in English and Education from Michigan State University, and has worked as a writing consultant, private tutor, and high school English teacher. Melissa grew up all over the East coast and Michigan, and spent 2006-2008 in Boston, where she met Kim and Katherine and joined Jack Cards.  She returned to Michigan to open an additional Jack Cards office, and lives in the Lansing area with her husband.

A Card Concierge, in Case You Forget
Katherine Boehret, The Mossberg Solution
"...even the hippest e-cards, such as customizable cartoons from political parody site JibJab.com, are no match for paper cards with thoughtfully penned sentiments....Jack Cards prides itself on unique offerings that can't be found in the local drugstore, and I found that its cards fit the bill for many occasions. It's worth noting the cards looked even better in person, created by about 40 designers who left me both scratching my head over some of their humor and cooing over their beautiful designs....
Jack Cards did introduce me to some clever and original material that I never would've seen in my CVS. Beautifully colorful cards made by Masha D'yans caught my eye immediately and looked more like watercolor paintings than cards....The weight and quality of the cards, along with their artistic attributes, made them feel more special than something that has been picked up from a shelf and opened by a hundred passersby......
Jack Cards...saves users the hassle of last-minute trips to the card store, and still lets greeting cards keep their personal touch, which is what makes them such a permanent fixture in our lives." Click here to read the full article.

Making You Look Like a Lovable Champ
"Handwritten cards let the special people in your life know you haven’t forgotten them, even if you're working on it....Jack's a service that’ll send you ready-to-mail greeting cards for any event, which you then Hancock and re-send -- making you look like a lovable champ for supposedly going to CVS....they even offer "Sorry" cards, for the week after missing an anniversary/graduation. At a pre-set time before the event, you'll receive pre-stamped, addressed cards; all that's left is for you to scrawl something sentimentally passive-aggressive, pop ‘em the back in the post, then go back to writing that poem about your hair." Never Forget To Send A Birthday Card
"While there are plenty of reminder services online that help people remember anniversaries and birthdays, few connect to the physical world. Which is where Boston-based Jack Cards comes in: a company that delivers pre-scheduled, ready-to-go greeting cards to the card sender, just in time for them to add a personal message and drop the card in the mailbox....While entering all of the necessary data might be a bit of a chore, it's a one-off time investment that helps customers unload the worry of letting an important date slip by unnoticed, and turns them into thoughtful, organized people who recognize the personal touch of a handwritten paper greeting."
