About Us
Who We Are
Founded in 2007 by two friends—Katherine Santer and Kim Dowds— Jack Cards is designed for busy people who value sending a handwritten birthday, anniversary or 'miss you' card but find it hard to get to a card shop or post office on time.
Based in San Francisco, California, Jack Cards uniquely focuses on delivering pre-scheduled ready-to-go (stamped and addressed) greeting cards to the sender just in time to write their own personal message inside and drop it in the mailbox. Or if you're in a hurry, Jack Cards will handwrite your message for you and mail your cards directly to the recipient. While Jack Cards makes it easier for people to select fun and interesting greeting cards from the most talented greeting card designers, and to send them on time, the "thoughtfulness" in sending a personally written message remains.
Katherine Santer, Founder & CEO
Katherine loves art and design. So much so she decided to fulfill a long-held dream and enter the world of design and entrepreneurship. Katherine came up with the idea for Jack Cards while chatting with Kim about venturing into producing well-designed products, and together they decided to launch an innovative greeting card company about design and problem solving. Katherine is from Sydney, Australia and now lives and works in San Francisco. Growing up she lived in Iran and France while her father was on diplomatic assignments, and as an exchange student in Japan. After graduating from university in economics and business, Katherine worked in marketing and economic consulting in Sydney and Boston.
You can see interviews with Katherine on CBS5 news, BetterTV, Fox News Arizona, and in the March 2011 issue of Vogue Australia magazine.
Melissa Kranzo, Co-Founder & Communications Director
Melissa joined Jack Cards in 2007 when her sense of adventure led her to leave her teaching career and try something new. Her love of words found a new outlet with Jack Cards. Melissa grew up all over the East Coast and Michigan, and graduated from Michigan State University with bachelor degrees in English and Education. She spent 2006-2008 in Boston, where she met Katherine and Kim and joined Jack Cards. Melissa returned to Michigan to open an additional Jack Cards office. She lives in the Lansing area with her husband, daughter, and mini-dachshund.

Our Story
It all started when Katherine and Kim were living in Boston and struggled to get birthday cards in the mail on time for friends and family back home in Australia. They started Jack Cards with a simple idea, 'How can we make sending great paper greeting cards fun and easy?' The girls loved that in the US, unlike in Australia, the postman picks up your mail from your mailbox. In 2005, over a pancake breakfast in Boston, they came up with the idea for Jack Cards.
JackCards.com was launched on October 29, 2007. On the same day, Jack Cards was featured in Daily Candy. Just over one month later, the company was featured in a full-page review in the Wall Street Journal. Since then, Jack Cards has been featured in 'O', The Oprah Magazine, InStyle, FamilyCircle, and Parents Magazines, Women's Health Magazine, and on the Rachael Ray Show, NBC's The Today Show, and CBS5 News.
Shortly after launching the site, Melissa Kranzo joined the team as a third Co-Founder to help build the company. Jack Cards has now expanded across the country - Katherine, Jack Cards’ Founder & CEO, now lives in San Francisco; Melissa, Jack Cards’ Co-Founder & Communications Director, is based in Lansing, Michigan; Kim left Jack Cards in August 2009 to focus on her family and now resides in Boston.
Why Should You Get Organized With Jack Cards?
Because sending greeting cards with Jack Cards is so much better than any of the alternatives! Why do we do the mad-lunch-dash to the local drug store only to get back to the office with a not-so-great card? Why do we waste time lining up for stamps at the post office or grocery store? And why do we send last minute birthday e-cards?
Jack Cards is all about being organized, having fun and making others feel special! As active Jack Cards members, Melissa, Kim and Katherine enjoy getting cards in the mail on time (it's nice when someone else organizes them for you!), and the satisfaction of finding 'the perfect' card for friends and family. The thing they enjoy the most is having the time to take a moment and pen a thoughtful message. And then of course, there's the anticipation - the 'feel good' buzz - as the card makes its way across the USA or around the world to the ones they love.
If you need any help, or have any suggestions - please feel free to email us. We love hearing from our members.

A Card Concierge, in Case You Forget
Katherine Boehret, The Mossberg Solution
"...even the hippest e-cards....are no match for paper cards with thoughtfully penned sentiments....Jack Cards prides itself on unique offerings that can't be found in the local drugstore, and I found that its cards fit the bill for many occasions. It's worth noting the cards looked even better in person, created by about 40 designers who left me both scratching my head over some of their humor and cooing over their beautiful designs....
The weight and quality of the cards, along with their artistic attributes, made them feel more special than something that has been picked up from a shelf and opened by a hundred passersby......
Jack Cards...saves users the hassle of last-minute trips to the card store, and still lets greeting cards keep their personal touch, which is what makes them such a permanent fixture in our lives." Click here to read the full article.

Making You Look Like a Lovable Champ
"Handwritten cards let the special people in your life know you haven’t forgotten them, even if you're working on it....Jack's a service that’ll send you ready-to-mail greeting cards for any event, which you then Hancock and re-send -- making you look like a lovable champ for supposedly going to CVS....they even offer "Sorry" cards, for the week after missing an anniversary/graduation. At a pre-set time before the event, you'll receive pre-stamped, addressed cards; all that's left is for you to scrawl something sentimentally passive-aggressive, pop ‘em the back in the post, then go back to writing that poem about your hair." Never Forget To Send A Birthday Card

Which is where Boston-based Jack Cards comes in: a company that delivers pre-scheduled, ready-to-go greeting cards to the card sender, just in time for them to add a personal message and drop the card in the mailbox....While entering all of the necessary data might be a bit of a chore, it's a one-off time investment that helps customers unload the worry of letting an important date slip by unnoticed, and turns them into thoughtful, organized people who recognize the personal touch of a handwritten paper greeting."
